EXPLORATORY BLOCK LLA-61 Casanare, Colombia.

About the project

In 2010, Suelopetrol was one of the 35 companies that qualified for the open bidding round in Colombia, being favored for Block LLA-61. The block is located in Colombia's Llanos Orientales basin.

For the implementation of these and all the activities, it partnered with the company Pacific Petroleum LLC, with tax identification number L13000082859 to jointly develop the field and commercialize all the crude oil extracted.

LLA-61 Block history

The Llanos Orientales foreland basin, bounded to the west by the Andes Mountains, is the most prolific and largest sedimentary basin in continental Colombia. It extends along the western margin of the Guiana Shield, covering more than 200,000 km2.Two distinctive structural domains characterize the basin: to the west, a compressional deformation belt known as the Los Llanos piedmont hosts giant Colombian hydrocarbon fields such as Cusiana, Cupiagua, Volcanera, etc.

The eastern side corresponds to the less deformed foreland basin characterized by a Neogene basin fill affected by normal faults and gravity features. The main oil fields on the east side of the basin are Caño Limón, Caño Yarumal and Rubiales.Exploration activity in the basin started in the 1940s but it was only until the 1980s and 1990s that the main oil fields such as Caño Limón and Cusiana-Cupiagua were discovered in this basin (Vayssaire et al., 2014).
